Maternal Illness

Strep BGroup B streptococcus (GBS) is a bacterial illness that can cause life-threatening infections in newborns. Exposed newborns can suffer from sepsis (blood poisoning), pneumonia, and/or meningitis. For the “pregnant women, GBS can cause bladder infections, womb infections (amnionitis, endometritis), and stillbirth” (CDC). GBS can be treated with antibiotics. To learn more, click below:
